My daughter and my son have shared a Jack and Jill bathroom for years. My daughter turned ten this year and we thought it might be a good time for her to have her own bathroom. The guest room is across the hall from her room and has it's own bathroom. We offered her the guest room as well, but she loves her room so she only took over the guest room bathroom. The bathroom was painted a yellow and was not very girly at all. My daughter wanted the bathroom to be pink and brown.
I took a round plastic container that I had and used it to make the scalloped border on top. I traced around half of the container, and kept moving it across the top. I drew it in pencil first. I then painted the bottom half of the wall with Restoration Hardware paint in the color petal. I painted right up to the pencil marks I had made. After it dried, I took a 1/2" brush and using Restoration Hardware paint in the color chocolate, copied over the pencil scallops I had made. After it dried, I used the back of the brush handle and dipped it in white paint to add dots to the brown scallop. The flowers in the border and next to the light are wallies from Pottery Barn. I got them years ago and didn't have a use for them until now.
The window treatment is from Target's Shabby Chic line. I embellished it using fabric glue and brown with pink dots ribbon. I used a wicker mirror we had in the bathroom already and added pink with brown dots ribbon (the opposite of what is on the window treatment). (The mirror and the towel holder are the only things I would maybe change in the bathroom - not sure how I feel about wicker anymore).
I wanted privacy on the window but didn't want to cover the window. I used a kit from Michaels that allows you to paint on stained glass. I used the flowers in the scalloped border as inspiration for my design for the stained glass.
I needed some sparkle to really make this a girly bathroom. I bought a chandelier from home depot for $50. How could I resist it for that price?
The standard builders faucet wouldn't do. I searched the internet for weeks trying to find a crystal faucet that would fit into the holes already in my sink. It wasn't easy but I found this beauty on faucetdepot. It literally took months for them to get it in...but it was so worth the wait. It is so girly.
The shower curtain is from Restoration Hardware as is the soap dispenser. The towels are from Home Goods. I bought one bath towel with her name on it, but the rest of the towels are from Home Goods and match exactly (I think I spent less on all of the other towels than I did on the one bath towel). The tissue box holder I made years ago using pink gingham fabric.
The "S" is from home goods. It was the total inspiration for the color scheme. I had bought it and when I showed my daughter it, she said that's the colors I want my bathroom. It was simple after that. Inspiration can come from anywhere. Let me know what you think.

You did a great job with this bathroom, and reading through the post on how various elements were accomplished I just had to smile! (I'm not the only one who would use a plastic container to create a border?! YES!) Love how much patience you must have had and the attention to detail, it all paid off!
ReplyDeleteAll the best with your blog! Janell
