Home Goals 2012

It was so much fun setting home goals last year, and actually accomplishing them, that I thought I would do the same thing this year.  It's nice to have somewhat of a game plan.  My game plan is always evolving, but I do have some things I would like to accomplish in my home this year.
First up will be updating our home gym.  Right now it's an uninspiring space.  It is filled with outdated, and in some cases, non-working equipment.  Not to mention that huge tube television in the corner.
My husband and I both work out as do both of our kids.  We need a gym that is both functional and stylish.  The gym has good bones, but just needs the DIYbyDesign touch.
I can't wait to tackle this project.

Next up is a project that is a bit controversial in our home.  I have been thinking for a while that I am over this burgundy color in the living room and dining room.  I'm ready to lighten things up.  I'm not sure which direction I'm going yet...
Maybe Wythe Blue...Benjamin Moore's color of the year.
I would like to create a gallery of family photos in my upstairs hallway.
I have been wanting to do this for a while now...2012 is the year.
Right now it seems to be the home for all artwork that has come from other rooms.

I would like to replace the carpet on the stairs and upstairs hallway.  However, replacing the carpet will create a domino effect.  If I replace the carpet, I would want to stain the railing and stairs a darker color to match the hardwood on the first floor.  If I do that, I will probably have to have the foyer and upstairs hallway repainted.  This project will require a bit more thought.
It will eventually be addressed, but potentially not in 2012.
Last, I would like to install a chandelier in my master bathroom.  We have vaulted ceilings in the bathroom and the addition of a chandelier would be great.  The awesome update of the new frame for my mirror from MirrorMate Frames has inspired me.

How about you...what are your goals for 2012.

I'll be sharing this post over at The Nester's 2012 Home Goals link party.

  1. These are all great projects. I can't wait to see how everything turns out.

I'm looking to tackle the carpet on the stairs this year too. Like you, I'm worried about the domino effect it may create.

  2. I found the whole house last year suffered the domino effect when we built an addition. I'm still riding the waves :-) Looking for what you come up with for your home gym. We have one in process right now.

  3. Not that my vote counts, but I LOVE the idea of that blue in your house! It would look really fresh and crisp! And really, nothing else would actually have to change in there....as far as I can tell from the photos.

    Good luck!

  5. I am hoping to build our fireplace I. Our living room... just bought lumber yesterday! Its a corner unit so i need a wall to get it going! Also working on my laundry room and making it more functional.... going to separate my 2 boys (right now they share a room)... so my bonus room upstairs will need to be redone and repurposed... would love to do a gallery wall in the hall that leads upstairs too! These are my biggest home goals. I am going to blog about them, which for me is a new thing, but very motivating!

  6. Wow that is a big list Judy! The stairs project alone is huge, since it affects so many other areas. I tackled it in 2011 but now that domino affect you talk about is coming into play - the tile in my foyer needs to be ripped out, and so on, and so on! Such is life as a homeowner. Look forward to seeing your projects unfold!
PS I just started a Before & After series (Befores on the first Friday and Afters on the last Friday of the month), and would love for you to link up sometime! :)

  8. I did a goals post, too, Judy! I tried to keep it simple, plus we don't really have that much to do other than some maintenance type work here. Although, hubby did mention over the weekend that we will probably have to get new carpeting since there are spots I just can't get clean. I think you've got some great projects planned; a nice variety.

I love all of your project ideas for 2012.. I've been wanting to do a gallery wall for quite a while too and I LOVE the B.M. Wythe Blue paint color. I've been trying to decide what I can paint that color all year! :) Excited to follow along!
