DIY Drop Cloth Ruffled Table Runner

Hope you all had a wonderful weekend.  Today's project has been on my "to do" list for a while now.
Let me preface my saying this project is not complete...but more on that at the end.
I bought this canvas drop cloth a while ago just for such a project.

I started by cutting a strip 23" wide by 54" long.
I folded it in half and sewed it together making a tube.
I basically followed this tutorial found here.

I made the ruffles and sewed them into the pocket on either end.

Now what I really want to do is add a French graphic like this one from the Graphics Fairy.

Last night I searched for tutorials on how to transfer onto fabric and found about five different methods.
Have you ever transferred a graphic?
What is the best way?

Don't forget to stop by for my Novica $75 giveaway.

  1. Hi Judy! Oh, your runner is beautiful! You did a wonderful job too! A graphic would look lovely. The way I've added a graphic to fabric was with the transfer paper you run through your printer and then iron it on.

  2. No, but I would love to try it. Debbie from Confessions of a Plate Addict does it all the time. She says she has found the easiest method. Hugs, Marty

  3. Your runner looks great, Judy! I have yet to do a drop cloth project but I'm planning on using it for my shopping cart liner that I want to make. I love that graphic and I think I must have missed that one from Karen. I usually save all her French and label graphics. You could use transfer paper for light fabrics or, Julie at Less Than Perfect Life Of Bliss just did a lunch bag and used a freezer paper method, which I haven't tried yet either.

  4. Your runner looks great Judy!! I've never tried transfering a graphic to fabric yet but Pam over at Our Adventurers in Home Improvement does it all the time and so does Debbie from Confessions Of A Plate Addict.

  5. I love that runner Judy! I've only transferred images onto wood but it sounds like you've got some folks pointing you in the right direction to find out how to do it on fabric. Good luck and I can't wait to see the results! :-)

  6. Your new table runner looks just beautiful and I know you will figure out how to do the stencil. I've never tried but if you can sew the runner I know you can do it.

  10. Love that table runner! I also want to try transferring a image to cloth - just need to set aside some time to do it! Maybe if I would curb my blog addiction I would have time!
