A New Kitchen Table is on the Way

We did a full kitchen remodel five years ago (you can check out the before and after photos here).  At the time we knew that we wanted to buy a larger kitchen table, but after the stress and problems of that renovation, we just never followed through on buying it.
The table we own is beautiful, just a bit too small for the space.  At the time of the kitchen renovation, we had picked out a table from Ethan Allen.  It was from their Maison collection.

Well, five years later, that is still the table we want.  We have looked around and have yet to find a table that we like more.  It's similar to the table we have, except that it is 56" round with a 20" leaf to extend it to 76" (our table is a 40" round with two leaves in it to make it 54" x 40").
I love the cherry top and it will go so well with our island.
For now we haven't purchased any new chairs.  I want to see how our existing chairs look.

Plus, for sure, I can find chairs I love that aren't Ethan Allen prices.
I love Ethan Allen...but they're expensive.

The table is supposed to arrive next week.  With the new table being a darker table, I think it's time to lighten up the space with a lighter area rug.  This rug, and the two runners in the kitchen, were bought five years ago and it's probably time for an update.

The color of these rugs was called mocha but when the rugs arrived, they seemed much more like a burgundy to me.  It worked, because it picked up on the color of the walls in the dining room, but I have always felt the rugs were a bit darker than I would have liked.  Great for hiding spills, though.
This rug is big too...it's 7'6" x 9'6".  I do like the cut outs along the edge.
I won't make any final decisions until the new table arrives.
But if I do change the rug, I would like to pull colors from the window treatments.  I think that would look beautiful under the dark wood table.

Maybe something like this.

Don't forget to stop back tonight for my Swing into Spring party.

The party opens at 8pm EST.  Hope to see you then.

  2. What a great looking table, Judy! The chairs they show with the table go with your counter stools, but I can understand your wanting to wait and see if you can use your existing chairs. Ethan Allen is expensive but they have been around a long time and I've never heard any complaints about their furniture quality.

  4. I think that rug with the light colors looks great to match with the curtains. And it will be nice to have the larger table. (Cherry is my favorite wood.)

  6. The new Ethan Allen table will be perfect in your breakfast room. I love your rug ideas too. The nice thing about EA furniture is that it never goes out of style. I have pieces I bought many (I'm not telling how old I am) years ago and I love them now just as much. I can't wait to see the finished room.

  13. I LOVE Ethan Allen...Our very first furniture purchase was a breakfast table from Ethan Allen...we thought at that time that we had spent a large fortune on it...$225 for the table and 4 chairs....It was our first purchase as all the other furniture were "hand me downs" from family...We still have that set...We use it in our bonus room now...it is like brand new...It is a sentimental piece for me and I will always have it on our home...
I love the Maison collection too...and all their new updated versions of their lines...Their customer service is terrific....Congrats on the new table and I think the lighter rug would look fantastic!

  16. You have a beautiful kitchen! Ethan Allen has lovely furniture, but you're right - they are pricey! We bought a table & chairs from them years ago. The chairs are in great need of being re-stained after homeschooling three kids at the dining room table for the past 19-years. I'll be eager to see your new dining room table when it arrives. Keep us posted!

  19. LOVE the dinette set with the iron chairs! So romantic! On second thought, it's less practical for little kids (spills!!)
