Little Girl's Room Reveal and Royal Design Studio Stencil Giveaway

As a housewarming gift to my brother and his wife, I offered to decorate their 2 1/2 year old twin's new rooms.  For my niece Lexi, this is how the room looked before.

The hot pink was on the wall when they closed on the house a few weeks ago.  My sister-in-law liked the color (I had some doubts) and wanted me to make it work.  The prior owners must have had something hung on the wall which they had painted around and now I was left with a big white spot on the wall.  The prior owners had left the extra paint, however, for some reason they had decided to water it down.  Watered down paint does not cover well...at all!

No matter how hard I tried I could not totally cover the white spot with the pink paint.
Who waters down paint??
Luckily my plan was to stencil the wall.  When Royal Design Studio offered me and the opportunity to  review their product, I jumped at the chance.   I chose an allover pattern stencil called Large Fabric Damask.  I measured the room's height and width and placed the design in the center at the top.
The Royal Design Studio stencil is awesome.  It is better than any other stencil I have used.  The pattern lined up easily and I didn't have any issue with paint bleeding under.  I continued directly below the first stencil down the wall.
Those extra marks you see on each side of the stencil help line up the stencil when you reposition the stencil on each side.  Next it was time to fill in the pattern.  This worked for me...I would do one stencil on the left and then go to the right and do one stencil.  That way the one before had a little time to dry before I repositioned the stencil again.
I used blue tape to hold up the stencil and a small roller to apply the paint to the stencil.  It makes the process go much faster.  I roll my roller in paint, and then roll it a few times on a paper towel so that there is not so much paint.  The paint dries very quickly since you are using so little paint.  I used Benjamin Moore Decorator's White for the stencil (which is the color we used for the ceiling and closet walls).  I used the same color in semi-gloss on all of the trim.
You can see in this photo how those "extra" marks line up with the stencil when I repositioned the stencil for the area to be painted.  Very easy.
I filled up the entire wall with as many full stencils as I could before I started to fill in with partial patterns. It took me about 2 1/2 hours to finish the entire wall.  Even the partial pattern areas were easy to do.  Sometimes you can use a stencil that fights you.  Not this stencil...it was really the best.
Now it was time to bring in the furniture.  As I said, it was my gift to my brother and his wife, to decorate both of his kid's rooms.
Keep in mind both rooms were a blank slate (no bed, no dressers, not anything).
Here is the reveal of Lexi's room.  Notice that the trim also got a fresh coat of white paint.  The prior owners had painted everything hot pink, including the molding and baseboards.

Next time I'm there I'm going to have to take more photos from different angles.  There's an entire wall that I didn't get a chance to photo as my camera battery died while I was there.  My brother lives over an hour away so it will be a few weeks before I can get back there.

This beautiful stencil has totally transformed Lexi's room.  Now the exciting part.

Royal Design Studio is generously offering
one stencil of your choice

Wow, LOVE the pink room! You make it look so simple. I work in a salon that could use an updated. I would pick one of the following to add some awesomeness to the walls: Ornamental Cartouche, Feathered Damask, or Casablanca Trellis. Then I would bring it home and add some happiness to my walls as well :)

Either tiger stripes or the damask like you did. still debating on location, but I keep thinking out my "not-so-formal" living space and doing a very subtle color variation on the wall. Maybe just using a clear glaze so the design is the same color but glossy.

You did such a wonderful job on that room. The stenciled wall was amazing. I like the Encantada Damask stencil. It could be done on an entire wall, or just once with several colors. Love it.
