Growing Beautiful Hydrangeas

It's no secret that hydrangeas are my favorite flower.  We have several hydrangea bushes in our backyard and I love to cut the stems to have fresh flowers in the house all summer long.
Here is one of the hydrangea bushes by our pool.  We have several more just as full of flowers.
So many of you have emailed me questions about caring for hydrangeas, that I thought I would just answer them all in a post.  I am certainly not an expert on the subject.
I did a post last year with tips for growing hydrangeas...you can read that post here.
Here are some of my other favorite links to the best care tips for growing hydrangeas:
Centsational Girl, my go to blog for anything and everything, did a great post a while ago on growing healthy hydrangeas.  Even though I thought I knew everything I needed to know about hydrangeas, I learned a few more things reading that post.
HydrangeasHydrangeas is a site devoted to the care of hydrangeas!
Southern Living also has a wonderful article on growing beautiful hydrangeas.
Once these beautiful flowers are in a vase, First Come Flowers gives great tips
on how to care for your cut hydrangeas.

Finally, for lasting beauty all year long, Sweetwater Style and Hydrangeas Hydrangeas explain
the best way to dry your hydrangeas.

Hope this helps you grow the most beautiful hydrangeas.

I had gorgeous bushes back on Long Island, Judy. I miss those big blooms and being able to go out and cut them when I felt like it. I planted three here at the new place and then the heat wave hit. They are doing okay because I made sure to water them. Hopefully, once they are more established, they will be as beautiful as yours and as the ones I remember having.

My hydrangeas have been a constant thorn in my side for years! I hardly get any blooms. Last year, for some unknown reason, was the first time I had tons of blooms. What do I have this year? One bloom on each bush!! Ugh!

Thanks for sharing...I'll check out the sites & see what I'm doing wrong.

My husband got me two hydrangeas for Mother's Day this year (per my request) and I did a lot of research before deciding where to plant them. Our home faces north, so I planted one by the front of the house, on the east side of the front porch, and it's doing wonderfully! I planted the other one in the backyard by the fence on the west side so that it could get that afternoon shade. It's also doing well, but I don't always remember to water it like the one by the front door. They both have about 10 blooms at a time on them and I can't wait for them to mature a little bit more so I can start cutting blooms. These articles will help me continue to care for them. Thanks!!

Beautiful Judy! We have quite a few hydrangea bushes too. I do nothing to them and they're beautiful.

Your hydrangeas are beautiful. We've had very little rain so mine are looking quite sad right now.

What a gorgeous bush. I planted one a few years ago but it never grew for me. I usually have pretty good luck with green and growing things, but not that one. Yours is beautiful.
