Clay Tag Tutorial

Trying my hand at clay has been on my to do list for some time now.
I have been pinning ideas for months and got a chance to try it out the other day.
I went to AC Moore to buy my supplies, and the sales woman recommended that I try Sculpey.  Having no real experience with clay, I was happy to follow her recommendation.
I figured I would start easy and make a few tags.  I used two large popsicle sticks while rolling out the clay to keep it uniform in depth.  I protected my work surface with wax paper.
I wanted a little texture on my finished tags, so I placed a piece of burlap on the clay
and rolled over it a few times.
Then I used a round cookie cutter and cut out a circle.
I used a lollipop stick to make a hole at the top.
Then using my letter stamps, I stamped different words onto the tags.
I then baked it for fifteen minutes at 275 degrees.
Once it was baked I let it cool for about ten minutes.
Then I painted in the groove of the letters using craft paint.
Super easy.
I used a piece of the burlap (I literally unwound a piece of the burlap) to tie it onto a decanter.
Clay tags make everything look a little better.
While I was at it I made a "thanks" tag to use next time we have a gift to give.
I also made a wine and cheese tag for a vignette in my kitchen.

I ran out of time, but I can't wait to make more.

I hope you will try this fun and easy project.

Don't forget to stop back tonight for my Fall into Fall party.

The link opens at 8pm EST.
Hope to see you then.

That's a very clever idea to use a clay for tags. It wouldn't be easy but I know it'll be worth it. Great tutorial by the way.

So cute!
They'd make nice rustic pendants, too, strung on leather or hemp.
Yes, I'm an old hippie.
