Monogrammed Pumpkins

Fall is officially here so it is time for me to finish up adding all of my fall decor to my home.

It's amazing how a simple monogram can make anything look fancy.  

I wanted to decorate my front hallway for fall using
these cream colored pumpkins at Michaels.

Using my Silhouette machine I printed our initials onto black vinyl.

I added some fall foliage into a Lenox vase.  

Under the cloche, I added an image that I printed onto card stock from The Graphics Fairy.  

I wanted some fall leaves, but the leaves haven't really begun to change that much by us, plus I don't love bringing leaves in from outside since you never know what bugs you are bringing in.

My solution...images of leaves from The Graphic Fairy, printed onto regular copy paper and cut out.

They look pretty real.

French Inspired Cloche and Winner of Giveaway Announced

Happy Friday.  This week really flew.  Last night I decided to change up my front hall vignette a little bit.  I actually hadn't changed it since Spring.  It was time...overdue actually!  My inspiration to change it up was a new petite, glass cloche I picked up at Home Goods for $10.
What did I do before Home Goods?

Simple and uncluttered.  A calming entry.

I started with a pretty French image from The Graphics Fairy and printed it onto card stock 

so that it had enough weight to stand up by itself.

I added a crystal butterfly, some "nest material" and a few eggs all on top of a dainty
scalloped plate in my favorite color of duck egg blue.  I just adore this plate (also a Home Goods find).

I love all of the soft colors in the graphic and used that as my guide in 

determining what would surround it.

The crystal butterfly I used was a gift from many years ago and probably cost ten times as much as everything else...but that's what is so fun about this display.
Mixing low and high and coming up with something special.
I just love how soft and pretty it looks.

I thought I would do my living room post today, since tonight into tomorrow is my

 Sizzle into Summer party.

I recently updated my living room with these embroidered pillows.  The gold ones I made with fabric from Calico Corners and the floral ones are from Pottery Barn.  I couldn't resist their perfect colors.

My favorite part of the room is:

I love that chair.  I bought it at an Ethan Allen sale a few years ago for a steal.  It has the buffalo plaid on the outside and the toile pattern on the seat area.  The books I covered using scrapbook paper and adhesive ribbon.  

This tea set was my Grandmother's.  I'm not sure exactly how old it is, but it is more than fifty years old for sure.  The colors are perfect for the room and it sits on a tray my parents bought us a few years back for our anniversary.  

This vignette behind my love-seat has books dating back to the late 1800's with a crystal bowl with dried flowers in it.  The dried flowers are special because a few years ago my husband surprised me in Vegas by asking me to marry him again and then wisked me away in a limo to our vow renewal ceremony.  The dried flowers are from the bouquet of flowers I held in the ceremony.  The lamp and the table are one of the first things my husband and I bought when we were first married.  The lampshade was recently replaced with a shade from Restoration Hardware.  The original shade cracked after drying out over the years.  The flowers are the ones I just moved from the entryway. Here is their new location.

Dining Room Vignette

Over the weekend I updated my dining room vignettes.

I have beautiful jars that have been empty since taking down the Christmas decorations.  It was time to fill them with something new.

I have been loving these Robin's eggs from Pottery Barn...but they are pricey...$14 for 8 blue and another $14 for 8 natural colored eggs.  While at Target this weekend, I found a box of 32 Robin's eggs in a combination of the blue and natural for $5.00 - total.  How could I resist that price for 32 eggs... and it came with a bonus of three bird's nest as well.

I bought a jar of river rocks from Home Goods the other day for $3.00.  I filled the jar on the left with the rocks first, then a candle and then some of the bird's eggs.  The other jar is filled with an assortment of green, cream and brown potpourri.  The potpourri was also bought at home goods for $9.99.

Here is a close up.  I love how it speaks to the bird artwork as well as the bird runner I have on my dining room table.

There are the three bird's nests as well as more candles and my tea box.

Here is the vignette on the other side.  I don't love what I have done with this side.  I just can't put my finger on exactly what I don't like.  I love that mirror, but I think it may just be too small for the space.  That might be my issue.  In any case, I filled the remaining jar with more potpourri from Home Goods.  This time in more browns and rusts.

I love the warm colors in this potpourri.

A few Christmas Vignettes

My Christmas tree,

and my staircase 

are where the majority of my Christmas decorating takes place.  However, I do like to sprinkle Christmas all over my home.  

I love my nativity set.  It is a precious moments set that my husband purchased for me when we first got married.  I have displayed it on a table near the tree for the last few years.  I used to have it set up under the tree.  Once we got the train and the kids would play under the tree, it was an accident waiting to happen.  So it got moved to a safer and more prominent location.

There's just something about this Santa Claus that I like.  I think it's the brown outfit he is wearing.  He goes so well in my dining room.

By adding a little red berry garland and some red cardinals, my chandelier gets a touch of Christmas.

A few years ago Hallmark started selling these cute singing snowmen.  We have collected each year.  I don't think they have one this year. 

My kids love these snowmen.  They decided where each would go this year.  This was a kind of cool year.  For the first time, my kids were old enough to actually be a huge help in decorating.  In past years they would always help, but after they went to sleep I would "fix" some of what they had done  (you know, 50 ornaments on the bottom branch of the tree...that kind of thing).  

This is kind of Christmas Central.  It's at the bottom of the stairs and each morning when the kids come down one of them changes the countdown.  The snow globe on the left is a picture of them with Santa when my daughter was six months old and my son was 3 1/2.  The kids love that giant snow globe.  The little train set is from Hallmark from 1991.  

This weekend we have our first Christmas party.  This is the 18th year this party has been thrown (it's hosted by our best friends...who are my son's Godparents).  This party is always on the first Saturday in December.    For us it has become the marker that lets us know Christmas is really almost here.
