While wandering through my favorite store, Home Goods, I came upon these dinner napkins. I just loved the color and their linen-like texture, so I bought them knowing I would come up with something to do with them. They were only $4.99 for the four napkins.
I decided to go to one of my favorite blogs, the Graphics Fairy, to find something to transfer onto my dinner napkins.
I made sure to print out a mirror image of what I picked out. That way when I ironed it onto the napkin, it would read the right way.
I bought this T-Shirt transfer kit years ago and still had five left.
I cut around the image to limit any excess transfer sheet.
Following the instructions on the transfer sheet, I ironed the image onto the napkin.
For the first project, I sewed two napkins together and created a pillow. With right sides together, I sewed three sides together. I then added a pillow insert and glued the last edge.
With two napkins left, I searched through my ribbon stash and found this gorgeous Martha Stewart ribbon that I had bought on clearance at Michaels Craft Store for $1.00. It coordinated perfectly (seriously, it couldn't have matched any better).
This time I decided I would make a tote bag. I sewed the bottom of the two napkins together.
I sewed the ribbon up one side and down the other to form the handles.
With right sides together I sewed the two side edges together to form the tote.
So for $6.00, I have a new pillow and tote bag. I just love how they came out.
My Swing into Spring party is still going on. Just click here to join in the fun.
Let me know what you think of my new pillow and tote bag. I always love and appreciate your comments. Hope you have a great weekend.

Love it!
These are beautiful and devine all rolled into one!! I ADORE the colour - what a find for $4.50 - plus I love your two options: both of which I, being very extremely lacking in sew-skill, thought brilliant!

So creative!! The iron on images really add some character!
I was just on Graphic Fairy's site looking for french stuff and saw the same exact one you picked! I love her site. I can not believe you found in your stash the perfect ribbon to match the fabric, they were meant to be. Holding on to things does have it's benefits right? I love the pillow and bag you made, so fresh and fun!
Love the color, Judy! That ribbon does go really well with the napkins! Your transfers turned out really well, too. My last go with transfers wasn't so happy, but maybe I'll give them another try.
These are beautiful! I'm going to have to start taking a second look at napkins!

Seriously. You need to write a book. How to decorate your entire home with linen napkins.
This is an amazing project. It looks like something you'd buy at Pottery Barn or some other pricey store!
Really clever.
I need to come up with a new word, though, because I believe in every single comment I've left you through this journey through the Alphabet I've used it!
And you are.
Clever.
And amazing.
Thanks for being so generous with your great ideas.
