Starting Home Goal #1

I'm off to a running start, so to speak, on my first home goal for 2012.
We are renovating our home gym.
 Here is the plan:

This layout is going to be so much better.  I created the floor plan on the Hoist website, the manufacturer of most of the equipment.  The new gym equipment is being delivered on Saturday.
The first thing we needed to do was remove the tube television from the corner of the gym.

I remember when we got this television we we so excited that it had a VCR.  Not that helpful anymore. Technology has moved fast and it's time for a flat screen.  Luckily we have points from a credit card and have enough to get a free flat screen with DVD player.  We have to order that in the next day or so.
The gym also became a catch all for things that had no home (ie the window seat from my son's nursery and the toy bins that we used in the gym to store workout videos and smaller items like bands).
The television was held in place with this huge stand.
Of course it left huge holes that needed to be filled before I could paint.  Preparation is the most important step anytime you plan to paint.  It's not the most fun thing to do, but definitely the most important.  I spackled the hole and sanded it several times until the wall was perfect.
Next thing I had to do was find a spot for the window seat.  I set up my new embroidery sewing machine on the parson's table at the bottom of the stairs in the basement.  It wasn't a great location to be right at the bottom of the stairs.  I also needed some storage for my sewing supplies.
So I moved the parson's table and the embroidery machine to where the keyboard was.  I moved the keyboard to the other side of the room.
Then I moved the window seat to the space at the bottom of the stairs where the parson's table used to be.  Now I have storage for my sewing supplies.  I simply covered the existing cushion with a drop cloth I had left over from another project.  I didn't even sew a new cover.  I just wrapped it like a present.  It doesn't move since it is set in to a frame at the top of the seat.  The throw pillows are from our outdoor furniture and needed someplace to go for the winter.  I actually love them on this seat.

Now that the space was basically empty, I moved the larger items into the center of the room.
Like I said, it's the preparation that takes the longest.
Finally it was time to take these flesh colored walls and change them to something better.
I decided to paint the walls Benjamin Moore's Palladian Blue.

I absolutely love it!!  It makes a huge difference already.
Palladian Blue is one shade lighter than BM Wythe Blue...color of the year.  The Wythe Blue was just a bit too dark for a space that is natural light challenged.  I have so many cool things planned for this room.
I can't wait to show you it all done...hopefully in the next week or so.

Can't wait to see the finished product. It is the boring prep stuff that take forever isn't it?

The primping is the fun bit :-)

We had one of those monsters in our home gym in the old house, Judy! It was great to watch while walking on the treadmill, but they are huge. I like how you've moved things around; the bench looks great there. Love the color and it's better you get all this prep out of the way now. Everything seems to just fall into place after that.
