The Great Window Seat Solution

I'd like to welcome Tamara today who has written a post especially for DIYbyDesign.  Enjoy!

One day, I walked into my teenage daughter’s room to put away the billionth load of laundry and had an epiphany. No longer would her room be cluttered with too much furniture and things scattered everywhere. I had thought of a way to get rid of her desk (that is never sat at and only used to cram stuff in) and her big fluffy papason chair that has seen better days. You see, she has a bay window that brings in lots of light, has a mountain view, and is under-utilized. What better way to make good use of her window, give her a cozy hang out spot, display her treasures and hide her clutter? A bay window seat with shelving and storage! Ingenious! Or at least it is in theory.

First step: Look at her room (pictured here) and take all measurements needed to make a bay window seat 20 inches high, with two doors underneath for storage and at the side angles, small shelving to display her treasures and store books.

Step 2: Compare my space with the experts who I use for those home interior remodel projects that are beyond my scope of DIY. This is a great seat idea for storage with the drawers underneath and using the white bead board for covering the inside of the area. I love the white finishing and two-tone color with the oak seat.

And another example for the final type of seat cushion with pillows for maximum comfort and how my daughter says “maximum cuteness.” Pillows are cushions are obviously a must as is the idea of lower book shelves.

Step 3: The build. Now that I have my ideas all on paper, these great reference photos and measurements taken, I can begin the building! There are many ways to build a window seat for any size and shape window and many options to use including doors for a big storage area, baskets or drawers to use and even building a hinged lid as the seat. Whichever design you prefer, it’s a great way to make use of under-utilized space and one more step in helping your home becoming design-pleasing and clutter free; no matter how many kids you have! Now, I’m off to go build my daughter’s new window seat and perhaps once all the cushions and pillows are in place with the finishing touches – to test it out by reading a book and taking a cat nap before letting her know it’s complete!

Thanks Tamara!

Have a great weekend!

Aha! My eyes got flashed with enormous beauties and soul felt better than before making entrance into this incredible window design world. I love the way your ensured your brilliant startup. I like your bay window design, seat and cushion with comfort ensuring pillow. Again, I was charmed mostly with the option of mountain view and sufficient light possibility. Love your gorgeous job and ideas surely. In fact my today's concern was to pick up some great ideas on Window coverings Toronto from online. But I love to admit that your adorable window seat solution made me overwhelmed with highest happy feelings.

Like the rest of the building or renovation project you need to start with a rough idea about how much money you can set aside for your window treatments budget Window Treatments

When it comes down to it, a window that has not been furnished is simply not complete. Not only does it not look good, but will also fail to provide any functions like privacy, temperature control, sun filtration and simply looking good handmade chopping boards
